Flyball came back to Queensland in a big way with the WELCOME 2021 race meeting, the first in fifteen months held at Pine Rivers on March 6th.
In the week leading up to the race meet, the weather had been threatening to break the hearts of Queensland flyballers. The grey clouds held off and despite a shower during ring set-up the race meet was on!
There were nerves mixed with excitement for everyone…did we remember how to do this??? But from the very first race of the day to the very last race of the day, everyone was glad to be there and not a beat was missed.
Rivalries were at their best. Teams were pushing passes to get the edge and there were teething problems for some with new combinations and in some cases new teams.
Catching up with friends is great, but so is making new friends. Congratulations to Teddy and Jess from Pine Rivers on their debut and a big high four to Ruben on achieving his Onyx Title (1300 points) ! Also lining up for the first time were Sue and Jolt from Orange Krush who did a great job and walked away with their Flyball Dog title.
The Gympie Dog Obedience Club is Queensland's most recent club to affiliate with the AFA and is working to get a Flyball team up and running. Marianne and her group have been training with Orange Krush and this weekend Marianne, Rebecca and Lucy from Gympie joined with the Orange Krush crew to give Rebecca and Rosie their first Flyball experience. They're obviously doing something right as Rebecca and Rosie didn't put a paw wrong and also secured their Flyball Dog title for their efforts! Congratulations team and welcome to the (slightly crazy but always fun) world of Queensland Flyball! |
All Paws Airborne's Special Ops (Lincoln, Nixon, Dekota, Ruby, Scout and Kaydee) and Airborne Hornets (Millie, Pippa, Basil, Rosie, Sadie and Jem) took out first place in Divisions One and Two respectively with Awesome Pawsome's Paws of Thunder (Primrose, Junya, Judge, Pepe Le Pew, Poppy and Maxi) securing the top spot in Division Three. Full results here.
The weather held off, everyone had a great evening and we were all glad and greateful to be back in the ring with our dogs and our teammates.
And at the end of the day isn’t that why we all participate in this crazy sport of Flyball Racing ?
